The prompt

Here’s a prompt I use: . Don’t answer it. Check it against five things a good prompt can have: a destination (what I want back, and in what shape), my reality (the facts of my situation), an example of what good looks like, an invitation to ask me questions, and a measure (how the answer should be judged or checked). Tell me in one line each which are missing, and which gap matters most here. Not every prompt needs all five. Ask me up to three questions, one at a time, to fill the gaps that matter. Then rewrite the prompt in under 100 words, in plain sentences, with no role to play. Leave a blank for anything you still don’t know.

1 blank / 0 filled

Write on any underline. A blank you leave empty stays in [brackets] when you copy. What you type is kept on this device and nowhere else.

Tell us it worked.

Ran it and got something you could use? One tap, no account. It is how the next reader knows what to try.

Pass it on.

Send the question, not your answer. Whoever opens it gets the prompt and makes it their own.

Make a result card.

Got an answer worth keeping? Paste a line or two and it becomes an image you can post.
