I’ve been lonelier than I let on, and I want to do something small about it. Ask me up to six questions, one at a time, about what my weeks look like, who I talk to, and when I last felt at ease with someone. Then tell me which kind of connection I seem most short on: close friends, easy everyday company, or being part of something. Show the evidence from my answers, label it as a guess, and name one thing I do that may make me harder to reach. Then give me three steps for this week, each under 30 minutes, smallest first, with at least one involving a person I already know. Don’t just comfort me or tell me to put myself out there, and don’t offer yourself as the answer. If what I describe sounds like more than loneliness, say so plainly and suggest who I could talk to. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
