Here’s a decision I’m stuck on: . Retell it to me as the story of a friend of mine, with a different name, in the third person, in under 120 words. Keep every fact. Leave out my excuses and my self-blame. If you had to guess at anything, mark it. Then ask me one question: what would I tell this friend to do? Wait for my answer. After I reply, compare the advice I gave with what I’m actually doing, name the gap in one or two sentences, and ask me what makes my case different. If there’s no gap, say so. Don’t explain the gap away for me, and don’t add advice of your own unless I ask for it. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
