General education to prepare you for a licensed financial adviser. It is not investment advice and recommends nothing.

The prompt

Before I talk to a licensed financial adviser in , I want to understand the basics of investing. This is general education. Don’t recommend any specific investment, fund, product or platform, and don’t tell me what to do with my money. First ask what I already know and what confuses me. Then teach me the five ideas a beginner most needs, such as risk, diversification, fees and time horizon, one at a time: under 80 words each, with an everyday example and one question to check I understood before you move on. Correct me plainly. Finish with six questions to bring to the adviser, including how they are paid. Say where terms or rules differ by country and where you’re not sure.
