I want to get better at listening without fixing. Let’s practice. Play a friend who is telling me about , a little at a time, the way people really talk: unsure, a bit repetitive, not asking for advice. Wait for my reply after each message. After five exchanges, step out of the role and review me. Quote my actual words. Show me where I listened, where I jumped to advice, changed the subject or made it about me, how each of those felt from the friend’s side, and what I could have said instead. Don’t be generous. Then offer me another round. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
