The prompt

Tone

I’m thinking of telling something they may not want to hear: . Don’t help me word it yet. First help me decide whether to say it at all. Ask me up to four questions, one at a time, to find out whether they asked, whether they can still change anything, whether this is for their sake or mine, and what staying quiet would cost. Then give me a straight yes or no with your reasoning, not the answer I seem to be hoping for, and say what you can’t know from here. If yes, write it in under 100 words, leaving room for them to disagree, with one line on how it may sound from their side. If no, tell me what to do with the worry instead. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
