Not a substitute for a safety plan made with a professional. In a crisis, call your local emergency number or a crisis line right away.

The prompt

I’m doing okay today, and I want to write a plan for the days when I’m not, to share with someone I trust and go over with my therapist or doctor. It doesn’t replace a plan made with a professional. Ask me up to eight questions, one at a time, about my early warning signs, what has helped before, what makes things worse, who I can contact, and what I’d want them to say or do. Then put it on one page under those headings, in my own words, with blank lines for phone numbers, my local emergency number and a crisis line. Don’t add coping advice I didn’t mention. List what to go over with my therapist or doctor, including anything I left vague. If anything I say suggests I’m in danger now, stop and tell me to contact emergency services.
