The prompt

Tone

I want to see where my career is heading if I change nothing. Don’t answer yet. Ask me up to seven questions, one at a time, about my role, how the last two years have gone, what I’m getting better at, what I’ve stopped doing, and what I say I want. Then describe my most likely situation three years from now on the current path: the job, the skills, the pay compared with today, and how I’d probably feel about it. Tell me which of my answers each part rests on. Finish with the one decision in the next six months that would change that picture most. Don’t flatter me, and label anything that is a guess about my field or my employer. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
