The prompt

I want to know my as a person, not only as my parent. Ask me up to five questions, one at a time, about their life, what we usually talk about, and what I’ve always wondered. Then write twelve questions I could ask them, in three sets of four: their life before I existed, how they saw the years I remember, and what they’d want me to know. Make each one specific to what I told you, easy to answer with a story, and nothing a form would ask. Mark the two to start with. Flag any that might be painful for them, and offer a gentler way in.
