The prompt

I want to write to , who doesn’t know me. What I’d like from them: . One true, specific thing about their work that made me want to write: . Write a message of under 90 words that opens with that specific thing, not with an apology or a compliment. Make one small ask they could answer in a single short reply, and make it easy to say no. Leave out flattery, ‘pick your brain’ and ‘I know you’re busy.’ Don’t claim anything about me that I haven’t told you. If my ask is too big for a first message to a stranger, say so and shrink it. Give me two versions, one warmer and one plainer, and tell me which you’d send and why.
