The prompt

I’d like a letter from myself ten years from now, written to me today. Don’t write it yet. Ask me up to five questions, one at a time, about what’s weighing on me, what I’m hoping for, and how I talk when I’m being kind to a friend. Then write the letter in my voice, under 250 words. The future it comes from went well in an ordinary, believable way: no windfalls, and no promises about how any one thing turns out. It should tell me what ended up mattering less than I think, what mattered more, and one thing to start now. Below the letter, list what you invented, so I can tell hope from fact.
