The prompt

Tone

I think there’s something I already know and keep behaving as if I don’t. Help me say it. Don’t answer yet. Ask me up to six questions, one at a time, about what I keep ‘waiting to see’ about, what I’d tell a friend in my position, and what I hope nobody asks me directly. Listen for my hedges: ‘probably’, ‘for now’, ‘it’s complicated’. Then tell me the one thing you think I already know, in a single plain sentence. Show where my answers gave it away, and say what not knowing lets me keep. Don’t tell me what to do about it. If you’re guessing, say so, and if I don’t seem to be hiding anything from myself, say that. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
