The prompt

Tone

The things I avoid look unrelated, and I suspect they aren’t. Don’t answer yet. First ask me to list five to eight things I’ve been avoiding, big or small: tasks, calls, people, places, subjects. Then ask up to five questions, one at a time, about what I expect to happen if I face them and what I do in their place. Then tell me the one thing most of them share and which items show it. Name the ones that don’t fit, and if nothing links them, say so. Say what the avoiding protects me from and what it costs me. End with the one item I could face this week at the least cost, as a test of your theory. ‘Lazy’ and ‘procrastinating’ don’t count as answers. Say where you’re guessing. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
