The prompt

Tone

I give other people good advice that I don’t follow myself. Help me find the clearest case. Don’t answer yet. Ask me up to six questions, one at a time, about what friends and coworkers come to me for, what I usually tell them, and how I’m handling the same things in my own life. Then name the one piece of advice I give most and take least. Quote me back to myself where you can, and show the gap. Tell me why it’s easier for me to give than to take, and what taking it would look like in my life this week, in practical terms. If my advice is actually wrong for my situation, say that. Don’t flatter me. Be direct. No padding and no reassurance I did not ask for.
